A cash gift is the easiest and most popular way to give to INHS. You can give your gift online or by check.  If you prefer to give by check, it should be made payable to the INHS Foundation
and sent to:

Inland Northwest Health Services Foundation
P.O. Box 469
Spokane, WA 99210-0469

Please include a brief note along with your check to let us know how you would like your gift used. If you dot have a specific use in mind, our Chief Executive Officer and the INHS Foundation Advisory Board will direct it toward the area of greatest need.

Gifts of Securities
The INHS Foundation accepts common stocks, bonds, mutual funds and other securities that have appreciated in value. You’ll find there are many benefits to donating this way, including a charitable income tax deduction and avoiding capital gains tax on value appreciation of the security. Regardless of your income bracket, it’s usually better to transfer appreciated securities to the INHS Foundation directly, rather than selling them and giving cash.

Another advantageous way to donate is to gift stocks that have performed poorly. When a stock has decreased in value, selling it for cash will allow you to claim a loss for income tax purposes, which you can then use to offset gains you have enjoyed on other investments – another potential tax break. If you gift the cash proceeds from the sale of the “loser” stocks to the INHS Foundation, you will also receive a charitable income tax deduction for the amount gifted – a possible total of three tax breaks for just one donation.

If you wish to make a gift of securities, we recommend that you contact the INHS Foundation Director to determine the best method of transfer. We can also work directly with your broker or trust officer. Securities can be transferred electronically between your account and INHS by providing original certificates, or by having the company issue new purposes at an amount equal to the average of the high and low share price the day the transaction takes place.

The INHS Foundation also encourages stock gifts of closely held corporations.

For more information on stock or securities gifts, contact the INHS Foundation Director at (509) 473-6371.

Gifts of Real Estate and Personal Property
Each year, INHS is pleased to accept a substantial number of real estate donations. Gifts of residences, vacation homes, farms, ranches, commercial property or undeveloped land all help give crucial support. We also accept gifts of tangible personal property, including works of art, books, equipment, furniture, automobiles or other valuables that might enhance the activities of a particular INHS program.

Provided the assets have appreciated, they often receive the same tax treatment as securities gifts, in which you receive an income tax deduction at fair market value and don’t have to pay capital gains tax. However, certain tax rules may reduce the amount of the charitable contribution, so we recommend contacting your tax advisor before using this method of donation.

Usually, the INHS Foundation will accept gifts of real estate if there are no restrictions on selling the property and if we are certain it presents no environmental risks. Additionally, a donor may transfer the title of a personal residence or farm to the Foundation and retain the right to live or use the property for life (please refer to the section on Life Income Gifts). The property then comes to the Foundation after the death of a surviving spouse. A gift of a home or farm with retained life possession gives the same tax benefits as a gift by bequest, plus some immediate income tax savings. You may save probate costs as well.

Another way to gift property is through a so-called “bargain sale,” in which a donor sells property to the Foundation for less than its full fair market value and deducts the difference as a charitable contribution.

Corporate Matching Gifts
Many corporations match charitable gifts made by their employees, which can double – and in some cases, triple – the amount of financial help directed at a specific area of need. If your company has a matching program, your personnel department can provide details and a Matching Gift Form to include with your check to the INHS Foundation.
